As I'm not much of a person that promotes thinking about the past, but a moment to reflect is very important, so here it goes!
After living at home for 26 years, moving out was pretty difficult. Moving over 3,000 miles away might have been a little extreme for a first timer, but something was telling me to do it. Jumping on that plane was by far the hardest thing I've ever done. With great support from my family and friends, they reassured me this was the correct decision.
My Alaska journey couldn't have started at more perfect place - Base Camp Anchorage Hostel. I spoke with the owner, Ole, months prior regarding long term availability until I found something more permanent. Ole mentioned he was looking for summer help at the hostel. While never staying at a hostel before in my life, I figured well, why not live at one and work at one? It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Everyday I woke up to extraordinary adventurers from all over the world, with the most thrilling stories I have ever heard. I was always a big fan of following adventure videos on YouTube and Vimeo, yet I felt like every person I encountered could have produced their own videos with millions of views. Between the adventurers and the seasonal workers that hop from exotic locations, I was introduced to this underground world of pure awesomeness.
From making me completely comfortable in a new setting, to having the pleasure of climbing mountains together- thank you for making this transition and summer beyond imaginable.
